Lime (Citrus × aurantiifolia (Christm. & Panz.) Swingle) is both a tree and its fruit, belonging to the citrus genus (Citrus).

Lime is not a naturally occurring species, but is a hybrid of dried lemon and Citrus micrantha.[1] Lime was newly described in 1913 by the American botanist Walter Tennyson Swingle.

Lime grows better in tropical areas, unlike many other citrus fruits. The fruits are usually round and between 3 and 6 centimeters in diameter. The color is green or yellowish green and the pulp is usually acidic and is usually not eaten as is, but instead the juice is used as a flavoring agent in cooking, sweets, beverages and cocktails. Lime is also found in soft drinks such as Fanta-Lime and Jaffa-Lime. During the 1970s, SOBRA produced a carbonated drink called Lime, but the taste did not have much to do with the taste of the fruit.
